Healthy Exercise Options

Good health is important today and it obviously begins with a proper diet, however without a regular exercise routine you are missing out on one of the essential ingredients to a healthy lifestyle. If exercise is not your cup of tea, there is no need to worry; because, today there are several different options for fitness activity. Obviously, many people choose to participate in the traditional methods of aerobic exercise and weight lifting; however, there are other options. Some of the more popular nontraditional exercises include barre workouts, Yamuna body rolling, yoga, pilates, and tai chi, all of which offer a variety to your workout and may prove to offer added health benefits that other exercise options lack.

It is not surprising that the traditional methods of exercise can be difficult on the body because usually aerobic exercise and weight lifting create more stress on our bodies. And, when you participate in those activities, they are also harder on your bones and joints. As you get older, aerobic exercise and strength training tends to become more difficult, it is tougher on your body, and it can cause injury.

For these reasons, many people consider participating in lower impact workouts that can also generate great health results for the body. Some people prefer these types of workouts to the more traditional workouts because they are not as rough on your body and they still allow for an exercise output. The most popular nontraditional workout routines that are catching wave today include barre workouts, Yamuna body rolling, yoga, and pilates.

The barre workout is a newer fitness technique that is being implemented throughout the country today and has gained many followers because of its ability to strengthen the muscles. Barre workouts involve the use of a bar and mirror much like a regular ballerina; however, you are guided through several movements during the class in an effect to increase your flexibility and improve your strength. Many people agree that it is a nice alternative to weight lifting when it comes to strength training.

Yamuna body rolling, YBR, is another form of exercise that many people are trying today, and it focuses on the use of 6 and 10 inch balls. The YBR is a unique type of ball exercise because it hones in to the specific areas of your body that need improvement and it works with your body type. One of the great features of YBR is that you are essentially getting as good of a workout that you would get with a hands on practitioner. And, typically a routine of YBR results in a leaner figure, elongated muscles, and increased flexibility.

One of the most popular nontraditional exercises, Yoga, originated from India; and, the practice is now common throughout the world. Even though many people today participate in yoga because it is another form of exercise available, yoga is also a form of meditation and it is great for mental health and physical health. Typical yogis today will take a yoga class, which provides students with a set of asanas (poses) that are combined with breathing. Additionally, there are a variety of forms of yoga today that you can participate in, but the most common is typically hatha yoga.

Pilates was developed in Germany and it has become increasingly popular in the United States over the last few years. One of the biggest draws to pilates is that it is based on aerobics and yoga, therefore those who feel that yoga is too calm sometimes prefer pilates. When you attend a pilates class, the exercises focus on your center, or more specifically, your core muscles. Typically, you combine breathing exercises and poses – all at the same time focusing on the core.

Lastly, another form of alternative fitness claiming to reduce stress stems from China and it is called tai chi. Many people today love to participate in tai chi because the environment is very friendly and noncompetitive. During a class, you perform postures and movements at your own pace without taking a breather in between poses. This form of exercise is great for all ages and it is actually recommended by health professionals to decrease your stress, increase your flexibility, improve your strength, increase your energy, and elevate your mood.

Consider trying some of the alternative forms of exercise out there today. Not only will they be less stressful on your body, but they will also provide you with some added health benefits.
